Going the “Cheap” Route Could Ruin Your Wedding Day. Here are 5 Reasons to Avoid Cheap DJ’s

In part 1 of our 2 part series, we off up some good reasons why trying to find a “cheap dj near you” could end up costing you the most important day of your life! Ok, that’s a little dramatic, BUT…you don’t want anything to go wrong on your special day.

1. Cheap Wedding DJ’s will most likely go out of business.

You are searching for DJ’s, if you plan properly, at least 6 months to a year in advance. Most cheap dj’s won’t even be in business, causing you to waste a deposit and ruin your wedding day.

2.  Cheap DJs don’t properly invest in their equipment.

Don’t get fooled by the Bedroom DJ…you know, your favorite wedding dj of a friend that kills it…in his bedroom. They don’t have the proper equipment to rock your party. It’s that simple. People want to be able to hear the music, the proper frequencies, and feel the vibe. You can’t do that with third rate equipment. Proper sound reinforce is a must. Then you have lighting and various sound package. They’ve don’t have the experience to understand the importance of purchasing proper equipment, nor do they have the experience to play in front of a crowd and “control” the crowd. This is crucial when it comes to keeping the wedding or corporate event ON TIME!  See the next one…

3.  In order to have a smooth and fluid reception, you need an event professional.

It’s about the flow, timing, and mood of your wedding reception or corporate event, not just about the music! You don’t want someone who “dabbles” with music controlling these variables of your event. That’s a good way to put people to sleep or quite possibly insult someone. Imagine having a wedding dj or event emcee that doesn’t understand appropriate microphone behavior. What about someone who doesn’t even understanding speaking into a microphone. Then you have a crowd left in the dark trying to figure out what the DJ or emcee is even saying.

4.  Crowd control and rotating the dancefloor with music.

Cheap wedding dj’s or event dj’s have no clue on how to get a part started or how to keep it going. It’s all about timing. Dropping the right song at the right time. Hearing the crowd react with a verbal “Ohhhhhhhhh” in excitement. That’s what you are looking for. I’ve spend years reading dancefloors, events, concerts, stadium crowds — understanding what types of musicality, instrumentation, cadence, and rhythm, affects a crowd. Cheap DJ’s have no idea where to start and end up playing the hottest songs out several times in order to get the crowd going. Thats a sign of an inexperienced DJ, playing the same song multiple times, without it being requested to be played multiple times, within the event time.

5.  “Microphone Microphone Check…” – You need someone who knows how to Emcee and Event.

You don’t want a Puker…you know, the obnoxious wanna-be radio dj that speaks in that horrible over-the-top 80’s radio voice. Proper diction, breathing, mic placement, and delivery all play a part in presenting on a microphone to a crowd. Cheap DJ’s don’t understand the importance of this. They shy away from the mic or scream into the micro. You don’t want grandpa or grandma’s eardrums exploding. We know better!

Listen, as tempting as it is to want to skimp on the DJ. Believe us, there are way more cons than pros. There are plenty of horror stories out there. We don’t need to beat it over your head. Spend the extra dough — You get what you pay for…
